Wild Wild West Series Round 2. Wondai 2021
Wonderful Wondai played host to Round 2 of the Wild Wild West Summer State Series
Wondai was extremely well supported with the event nudging 80 competitors despite locked borders and inclement weather. Featuring racing over 2 days, the Wondai trails provided the perfect environment for close and exciting racing across all categories. The lead-up to the event was nail-biting as the weather was proving a major headache for all of South-East Queensland. Rain, rain and more rain had everybody bracing for a major mudfest and although (thanks to more rain on Saturday night) the trails were muddy, come Sunda – everything was rideable, challenging and fun fun fun! A huge thanks to all of the volunteers from the South Burnett region who worked on the trails in the lead-up to the event, what an awesome track!
Results – Wondai XCC Short Track – Saturday, December 4th 2021
The short track at Wondai featured approximately 970m of trail, with riders completing as many laps as possible in a given time frame for their category. For such a short circuit, the variety on offer was quite impressive, jumps, wide fire road, mud pits and narrow single track through trees.
A grade men, the fastest of the day, saw laps completed in just under 2 minutes per lap. Joel Dodds taking honours on the line in a time of 15:59.44.
1. JOEL DODDS
2. KYLE STEWART
3. ETHAN WEISS
A grade women came down to the wire, with Holly Lubke taking the win in a spint finish from Anna Beck with a time of 15:53.94.

Results – Wondai XCO (Cross Country) – Sunday, December 5th 2021
Sunday’s XCO (Cross Country) mountain bike race at Wondai was exciting and hotly contested, with depth in numbers across every field due to the A,B,C grade format of racing. The course was almost bone-dry on Saturday afternoon during practise only for the heavens to open on Saturday night and create a mudfest for racing on Sunday. A unique feature of the Wondai trails is that they hold up, even in muddy conditions. The entire course was ridable and fast with dismount more likely to happen from a bad line choice/muddy mishap than a calculated decision.
Cameron Wright took the win in A Grade men with a time of 1:15:54.84, lapping every 15 minutes or so. Kyle Stewart secured another 2nd spot finish for the weekend with short track winner Joel Dodds taking 3rd.
1. CAMERON WRIGHT
2. KYLE STEWART
3. JOEL DODDS
Anna Beck took out the A Grade womens event with a masterclass in the mud, switching around the finishing order from Saturday’s short track. Finishing 4 laps in a time of 1:11:42.39. Sharon Heap gave an exceptional performance to finish in 3rd.
1. ANNA BECK
2. HOLLY LUBCKE
3. SHARON HEAP
